In the Cascade Range, nestled adjacent to Mt. Shasta and along the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway you will find the town of Weed.  Weed is a small community located just north of Mt. Shasta City.  Named after its founder Abner Weed, the town is rich in history and diversity.  Weed was the most powerful sawmill town in America for many years and still maintains signs of its past. 

The town is home to the College of the Siskiyous and boasts many educational and outdoor recreation opportunities.  In Weed you will find a wonderful small community with limitless potential.  Even though the mills are long gone you can find some of the counties best home values along with solid schools.  If you’re at the annual Carnivale be sure to sign up for the bocce tournament.

 

 

Traveling north on Highway 97 you will find the community of Lake Shastina which shares the same zip code as the city of Weed.  Lake Shastina is a rural community located just outside of Weed.  Lake Shastina is also a golfer’s delight with a fantastic course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.  Live on the golf course or on the lake, either way you won’t find a more affordable place to call home. 

Lake Shastina boasts underground utilities and paved roadways.  Along with its own administrative services, Lake Shastina has its own water, sewer, police and fire departments.  Once known as Dwinnell, Lake Shastina started as a recreation area and has morphed into a haven for families and retirees.  It has been ranked in the top 100 places to retire in America for good reasons; it’s safe; quiet and beautiful!
